Testimonials

"I thoroughly enjoyed your Voicehouse performance on 31st May 2019. As a choral singer of considerable experience, I find it quite astonishing that you achieve a coherent blended sound without any official written guidance whatsoever. I particularly liked the items based on African folk music which moved completely naturally and clearly suited the choir's range". - Ron McKune

"It had been 60 years since I had last sung in a choir at school so I was somewhat apprehensive when I took part in the Voicehouse concert at St Cuthberts Church on 31st May. I had never experienced singing in an ‘ A Capella Choir’ so I realised at my first Voicehouse session how  daunting it would be to meet the discipline of singing bass in harmony with such an amazing choir. I thought I should at least give it a few sessions to see if I could cope.

I have to say I was very glad I persevered with amazing help of Yvonne and especially other members of the bass section, so by the time of the concert I felt I was at least able to make a decent contribution and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. My wife and friends who attended the concert thought that it was excellent. A great experience and well worth the 60 year wait!" - Harry (joined November 2018)

"If you appreciate good music, to be specific well-chosen songs professionally arranged and delivered enthusiastically by people who are clearly enjoying themselves, then may we suggest you get yourself along to the next concert by Edinburgh’s Voice House Community Choir. You’ll have a great evening."- Keith & Alison Newton

"I joined the Voice House about 4 months ago and the welcome was warm from the start.  Existing members make a real effort to make sure newcomers are introduced, and can choose where they feel best able to sing. Music varies widely, from soft Scottish lullabies to energetic African choruses, to familiar popular tunes, all ably directed by Yvonne, who is encouraging of all abilities. For me it’s now an important moment in the week, two hours of joy with others who simply enjoy making music together. I highly recommend it!" - Elizabeth S (Jan '24).

“Some months ago a friend asked if I was interested in joining her choir as they were in need of more male singers. I listen to music a lot and sing along at home but had not sung with others since school – many years ago! She said that there were no auditions and no musical knowledge required. All standards were welcome and the weekly rehearsals were very enjoyable.

After thinking about it for a while I went along to a free taster session and found everyone to be very friendly. It was quite an informal evening with a wide variety of songs to sing. Four or five were sung and rehearsed in subsequent weeks. I really enjoyed it and have been going along to the weekly sessions ever since.

After just a few weeks I was asked if I would like to sing with the Choir at an event at the Eric Liddell Centre when the Christmas lights were being switched on. I thought it was a bit early for me but said yes and am glad that I did. Quite a number of people turned up to listen and it was very satisfying to be part of a successful event. I would recommend the Voice House Community Choir to anyone who is interested in singing in a friendly setting.” - Douglas H (February 2024)
